Noise in the attic
Night scratching does not name the animal. These are the signs we look at on a Central Florida house before anyone sets a trap.

What we look at on the shell
The specks
Dark specks on the wall under the eave are a different sign from a soffit panel out of its track.
The sweep
A garage door that no longer meets the slab is an opening, whatever is using it.
What the inspection is
- The soundScratching or thumping after dark means something is using the house. Raccoons, bats, squirrels, rats, and opossums can all do that.
- The nameWe name the animal and every opening we can see before a trap goes out.
- What we could not enterIf we cannot get into an attic or a crawl, we say so. A count of traps is not the inspection.
- YoungIf young are still inside, or the animal is one we do not seal in, the ordinary close waits.
